As a general rule of thumb, your bodyboard should come roughly within 3/4" of either side of your belly button.
*(This may vary from one person the the next)
Another good rule of measure it to hold the board up to yourself while standing, mimicing your hand, arm and elbow positioning as if you were riding a wave, and lining up the the nose of your board with the nose on your face, and your knees resting on edge of the bodyboard's tail.
